Dr Georgina Treloar
Postdoctoral Research Associate, University of Exeter. Social scientist working on nature recovery. PhD in social movements.
I worked for over 15 years’ as a communications professional and recently completed a PhD in Environmental Social Science at the University of Kent on framing in the climate/environmental movement. I hold a postgraduate certificate in Methods of Social Research including qualitative and quantitative methods for which I received a distinction, an MA in Writing and Literature and an undergraduate degree in the Creative Industries. I have also completed a course on environmental communications with the International Environmental Communications Association.
My expertise spans creative copywriting, technical and academic writing and social research with an emphasis on public engagement with climate and environmental issues. My thesis title is ‘Extinction Rebellion in the frame: An analysis of XR’s nascent mobilisation from the social movement framing perspective’. Additionally, I have contributed a chapter on the epistemology of XR to the forthcoming Routledge Handbook on Grassroots Climate Activism (2024).
My political experience as an elected district councillor, planning committee member and parliamentary candidate equips me well for policy-related roles.
I currently work within an amazing interdisciplinary team at the University of Exeter on an ESRC-funded project researching Nature Recovery and Regional Development in the UK’s rural periphery.
